Espazzola-2+3-53/-58 for Portafilter with Straight Cams
What is the state of the cup of your Espazzola?
If you want to disassemble the Espazzola - e.g. to rebuild her in another configuration - this is also easy to achieve. Please follow these instructions:
Identify the two places on the cup where the brackets must be attached. They are marked with a dot on the bottom of the cup - next to other markings. You only need two brackets. The third bracket is not needed for this configuration.
Take a bracket and place it with one side in the matching recess on the outside of the cup wall so that the short hook of the bracket engages under the bottom of the cup and the transverse section is parallel to the edge of the cup.
Fix the inserted side of the bracket with a finger and push the transverse section to the middle of the cup until the other side of the bracket clicks into the matching recess in the cup wall.
Make sure that the short hooks of the bracket at the bottom of the cup are in the appropriate recesses. If one or both hooks are not in the grooves, slide them over the small ramps to the correct position until they click into place.
Repeat this procedure with the second bracket on the opposite side of the cup.
You can also insert the brackets when the cup is mounted in the handle. In this case you must ensure that the short hooks snap cleanly into the bottom of the cup.
If necessary, you can push the ends in this case with a pointed object - for example a toothpick - in the right direction until they click into place audibly.
Mounting the cup
Take the handle and hold it with the funnel-shaped opening pointing upwards.
Place the four round feet pointing downwards from the bottom of the cup into the round holes in the funnel so that the two brackets are in the same positions as the cams on your portafilter.
Press the cup into the funnel until the snap-in loops click into place audibly. Make sure that all four loops are hooked in. You must have heard four clicking noises.
Mounting the Membrane
Place the membrane on the cup so that the bulged side is facing upwards and the three ‘fingers’ in the middle of the membrane point to the three knobs on the bottom of the cup.
Strip the holes in the three fingers over the three knobs at the bottom of the cup.
Grasp the ends of the outer arches of the membrane in pairs and insert them into the recesses in the rim of the cup.
Check the position of the membrane in the cup and correct if necessary.
To remove the membrane - for example to thoroughly clean the Espazzola - carefully pull the individual arcs out of the recesses in the rim of the cup.
Disassembling the Espazzola
You can easily take the Espazzola completely apart, for example to reassemble it in a different configuration.
Unmounting the Cup
To release the cup from the funnel, you need a rod-shaped tool. A single chopstick is perfect for this. But it also works with a simple match.
Turn the Espazzola so that the underside of the funnel points upwards.
Hold the Espazzola by the funnel in one hand so that the edge of the funnel rests on the tips of your fingers and on the side of your thumb.
Take the stick in the other hand and push the tip diagonally outwards with into the square hole at the funnel edge that is closest to your thumb. You will hear the corresponding snap loop release with a click.
Turn the funnel in your hand until the next square hole is above your thumb. Repeat the previous step with the chopstick.
If you have unhooked three snap loops this way, you can turn the Espazzola over and remove the cup with a tilting movement.
Unmounting the Brackets
The brackets can be removed. To this end:
Take the cup in one hand. With two fingers of the other hand grab one of the upper curved ends of the bracket.
Press the curved end to the side and outwards out of the recess in the cup side until the whole bracket side is released from the recess with a click.
Unhook the other side from the recess in the cup.
You can also perform this procedure with the cup mounted in the handle.
Now you can put the Espazzola together in another configuration:
